“Scar carcinoma”
Growth may be very slow (7-12 years)
Typically, slowest growing 1° malignancy

metastatic adenoca from elsewhere
All probably begin from single abnormal
cell
Lymphatic involvement is common

Solitary mass containing air bronchogram
DDx: Lymphoma, pseudolymphoma,
inflammatory pseudotumor, sarcoid
Commonly have “participating tail” of
atelectasis to pleura
Alveolar Cell Carcinoma
Diffuse
May present as multiple discrete
nodules
May present as area of chronic
consolidation
Resembles pneumonia which does not
clear

Symptoms
About 50% are asymptomatic
Symptoms include
Cough especially
Sometimes very productive (up to 4 liters a
day)
“Bronchorhea”
